RADARBANYUWANGI.ID - Indonesia’s women’s national football team is set to begin their campaign in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers with a match against Kyrgyzstan on Sunday, June 29.
The Group D opener will kick off at 8 p.m. local time at the Indomilk Arena, Tangerang, and will be broadcast live on Indosiar and streamed via Vidio.
The Garuda Pertiwi, who host all Group D matches, share the group with Kyrgyzstan, Taiwan, and Pakistan.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir expressed his optimism regarding the team's preparation, emphasizing that both the women’s and men’s national teams receive equal treatment in terms of training and coaching standards.
“Alhamdulillah, we should be proud that PSSI doesn’t differentiate between the men’s and women’s teams in terms of preparation. We’ve provided the best — from coaches to the training camp system,” Erick said.
According to Thohir, the average age of the squad is around 22, making it a relatively young team. However, he urged the players to stay focused and treat the opening match as a stepping stone toward stronger performances.
“This is a very young team. I reminded them that there are three games — focus first on the match against Kyrgyzstan on Sunday night. After that comes Pakistan. The real do-or-die will be against Taiwan,” he added.
Thohir also encouraged the squad to view the qualifiers as an opportunity rather than a burden.
“This shouldn’t be a pressure. It’s a new team, a young one. But I believe that with their unity and the opportunities we’ve given, they will strive for the best result,” he said.
Indonesia’s squad has also been bolstered by the inclusion of four naturalized players — Iris De Rauw, Emily Nahon, Isa Warps, and Felicia De Zeeuw — who have officially joined the national team ahead of the qualifiers. (*)
